Why did the PowerPoint Presentation cross the road?
To get to the other slide!
It all started in 1987, the birth of what we call PowerPoint. PowerPoint, a Microsoft product, is widely believed to be an invention by Bill Gates. However, it was actually founded by Robert Gaskins. It was also called “Presenter” and belonged to another company called “Forethought”.
The timing of PowerPoint joining the market was impeccable. During this time, purchases of personal computers and their use in business were surging. A combination of want and need in the market made PowerPoint the top presentation software available at its time.
However, Powerpoint did not really become the product we know and love until 1997. It was then when Microsoft bought the product, eliminated the need to know programing to use it and granted personal computers access to features such as transition and animation.
A bunch of feature releases and a few decades later, Powerpoint transformed into the software we know today. It is worth noting that by 2012 PowerPoint had control of 95% of the presentation market.
